The film “Tigerland”, shot in Primorye in 2018, will take part in the competition program of one of the largest film festivals in the world, Sundance 2019.
The film’s director, Academy-Award winner Ross Kauffman traveled to Primorye twice: in February and May 2018, to make a film about the preservation of the tiger. The main part of the shooting took place in the valley of the Bikin River. One of the heroes of the film is Pavel Fomenko, head of the department for the conservation of rare species of the Amur branch of the World Wildlife Fund. At the beginning of May 2018, Pavel, together with other specialists of the foundation, conducted Russia's first “soft” release of two tigers into the wild. This episode will also be featured in the film. WWF, WCS, Amur Tiger center, Rehabilitation center in Aleekseevka and Primorye Film Commission support filming.
“Tigerland” is a feature-length documentary film about tiger conservation. The film takes place in tiger-range countries: Russia and India. These stories address the primary challenges to conservation progress in the tiger range.
