Primorye Film Commission

The fifteenth International Film Market TIFFCOM - Marketplace for Film & TV in Asia, Affiliated market of the 31st Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF), was completed in Japan Content Showcase 2018 in Japan's capital Tokyo. This year, the film market gathered a record number of participants from 25 countries. The Location Pavilion was presented at the Film Market, in which locations and opportunities for filming of three countries - Malta, Kosovo and Russia (Primorsky Region) - were presented.

Not only Japanese filmmakers, but also representatives of other Asian countries: Taiwan, China, Vietnam, South Korea, and Singapore showed great interest in the Pavilion of the Primorye Film Commission.

Representatives of the Asian film industry are attracted by European architecture, as well as Russian nature, which is different from Japanese. Primorsky Region has both, and, being in close proximity to Japan, it can become a promising film set for Japanese projects. The existence in the region of the Film Commission will be a guarantee for producers that the shooting in it will be successful.

Dmitry Shevtsov, the Head of the Primorye Film Commission: «Our task is to make Primorsky Region not only a popular film set for Russian and Asian groups, but also to create a KinoHab that would unite Russian and Asian film companies for co-production filming in Primorye».

Every year several Asian films are shot in Primorye. In recent years, films by such famous Japanese directors as Kiyoshi Kurosawa “The Seventh Code”, Shinsuke Sato “Death Note Light Up the New World”, Kazuyoshi Kumakiri “The Back Horn” were shot here.

This year, in the Primorsky Region, a music video of the popular NGT 48 group in Japan was filmed by SONY Music. The video was directed by Koki Hasey, whose film “Blanca” was awarded with several prizes at the Venice Film Festival in 2015. The video for the new single of the group has already taken the first place in the music charts of Japan for a month, on the official channel of the pop group NGT48 on Youtube two versions of the clip were watched by more than 1 million people.
